"Turn-key" Vivarium Facility

Explora's rental vivarium facilities are designed to provide everything you need to quickly and cost-effectively advance your in vivo research projects. Our vivarium and laboratory facilities are kept under strict cleaning and maintenance routines to ensure a high quality working environment for your scientists.  In additional to husbandry and laboratory maintenance, Explora also takes care of all regulatory issues, including IACUC oversight, BSL-2 and radioactive waste management, NIH assurance, and DEA and state licenses. Our goal is to allow your scientists to focus on their research without the distraction of laboratory management.

"Turn-key" Vivarium Facility

Explora's rental vivarium facilities are designed to provide everything you need to quickly and cost-effectively advance your in vivo research projects. Our vivarium and laboratory facilities are kept under strict cleaning and maintenance routines to ensure a high quality working environment for your scientists.  In additional to husbandry and laboratory maintenance, Explora also takes care of all regulatory issues, including IACUC oversight, BSL-2 and radioactive waste management, NIH assurance, and DEA and state licenses. Our goal is to allow your scientists to focus on their research without the distraction of laboratory management.

Well-equipped Vivarium Rooms

Room-specific biosafety cabinets and cage change stations are provided in vivarium rooms where potentially infectious agents are used, or where immuno-compromised animals are housed. Each of our vivarium rooms can be adjusted to be positively or negatively pressurized relative to the common hallway to minimize any potential cross-contamination. In addition, Explora provides essential equipment such as stainless steel tables, surgical lights and an isoflurane vaporizer. 

Necropsy Room

A dedicated necropsy room is available for necropsy or tissue collection. This room is equipped with multiple stainless steel necropsy tables with forced ventilation and individual surgical lights. This setup ensures proper personnel protection and facilitates necropsy and sample collection procedures.

Cage Washing Facility

Our cage washing facility features a high capacity automated pass-through cage washer and a large capacity pass-through autoclave. Standard operating procedures and maintenance routines are followed. 

Robust HVAC System

A robust HVAC system is vital to any vivarium operation. Explora's facility is supported by an industrial-strength HVAC system that is under professional routine maintenance. Our environmental conditions conform to or exceed the guidelines specified in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals ("the Guide") published by the National Research Council.

Support Facilities

To support in vivo research, Explora has two cell culture rooms and a molecular biology lab available for clients to use. One is dedicated for mammalian and non-infectious culture work, and the other is dedicated for BSL-2 level cell culture work. Our radioactive material license covers our BSL-2 cell culture room as well as our vivarium rooms, allowing various labeling studies to be performed.  Other facilities available for clients' use include -80C freezer storage space, a chemical fume hood, fire-resistant chemical storage and standard laboratory equipment.

Conference Rooms and Office Facilities

Multiple well-appointed conference rooms are available for clients to conduct research meetings. A video conference room with state-of-the-art presentation and video conferencing equipment is also available for multi-site meetings. For the convenience of our clients' scientists, a large, comfortable lunch room with vending machines are onsite, and a fully equipped guest cubicle with with internet access is available.

Building

Explora BioLabs is located in the San Diego Science Center building near Mission Bay in San Diego. Our facility is conveniently located near the heart of the San Diego biotech community and is just 15 minutes from the San Diego international airport.
